Creation of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) through the merger of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group (MTFG) and UFJ Holdings.

Creation of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking through the merger of Mitsubishi Trust and Banking Corporation and UFJ Trust Bank. Mitsubishi Securities and UFJ Tsubasa Securities merged to form Mitsubishi UFJ Securities.


Creation of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) through the merger of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and UFJ Bank.


Creation of Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance and Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS. MUFG made Mitsubishi UFJ Securities a wholly-owned subsidiary of MUFG.


MUFG acquired 21% shares of Morgan Stanley.*

*22.4% as of December 2013

Union Bank became a wholly owned subsidiary of BTMU.


Creation of Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Holdings. Mitsubishi UFJ Securities and the investment banking operations of Morgan Stanley Japan Securities (currently Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities Co., Ltd.) integrated to form Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities.


BTMU acquired 72% shares of Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited (Krungsri).

BTMU acquired 20% shares of Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank).


On 1 July, operating companies Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Holdings Co., Ltd, outside of Japan, came together under the MUFG brand. Now one name is all you need to know to access our corporate and investment banking and securities services on six continents.
